Visionale 09

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Exactly one year ago, this website was released. At that time whatawitch.com was taking part at the Visionale 08, a film festival in Frankfurt am Main in Germany in a contest for filmwebsites including the aspect of Web 2.0.
Sadly our website did not win in this contest and Boris Seewald felt that the Judge did not choose the winners in the right way.
Out of that he wrote a very critical report about the Visionale 08 and its Judge. The report can be read here (in german).

Of course this report did not make change the winners, but it made the organizers of the film festival think and took the critic very serious:

Now, one year later, the Visionale 09 is starting this weekend, and surprisingly Boris himself is now in the Judge of the Visionale 09. This is a now chance to experience a festival from the other side and see if his critics from last year were correct.

For the people living nearby Frankfurt, the Category Young Professionals is recommended. Many short films with a high standard and well done animations will be shown.

WAW in Frankfurt

What a Witch is actually not a Low-Budget Movie, its more a No-Budget Movie. Every member of the crew paid Thirty Pounds. That’s it.

It is from this, that we are creating this shortmovie. This movie is the result of busy people volunteering the little free time they have in order to make this movie a success.

But the vision is big. Besides a premiere, there shall be a DVD distribution of the film. It is a lot of work and as is always the case for low-budget films, lack of finance influences how good its distribution will be. Successfull distribution is vital if we want to continue with projects similar to this.

To make that happen, we have to invest a lot in promotion (e.g. this website) in order to receive recognition in the big field of the film industry.

For its first big step, whatawitch.com will be presented on the Visionale in Frankfurt, a filmfestival in Germany. This years focus of the Visionale is on the aspect of Films including Web 2.0.

What a Witch started on Facebook, when  filmmaker Michael Franklin created the group “Let’s make a film”, asking anybody who was interested in the project to join the group. What you have seen so far, came out of that. What a Witch is an example how Web 2.0 can be used for film.

This saturday, the ’story so far’ of this project will be presented. Possible investors will be aboard along with a big audience.

When this movie will finally be released, the hope is not only that the movie satisfies its audience, but also that its level of awareness will be strong enough to ensure that its distribution is a great success.
